Bulgaria is an upcoming economy and a fresh member of the European Union (since January 2007). Economy is picking up quickly and the number of tourists is growing rapidly every year. Of course the Bulgarian economy is suffering from the financial crisis, just as every other country does, but it seems that it is doing relatively well.

Tourism is a major asset of Bulgaria. The beaches and the resorts at the sea contribute to this significantly. But the coast is already getting too crowded and the number of interesting places to visit is relatively few.
Residence Odessos wants to anticipate on this, by offering a calm natural environment and some new interesting places to visit (also open for other tourists). These two aspects seem to be conflicting. This is a challenge within the project: to design it in a way that both can be combined and the advantages remain.

The initiative for Residence Odessos dates back to 2004. Initially it was meant to be a small park with 50-60 houses. But because of the huge potential, the idea started to grow. Beginning 2009 we finished buying all the necessary land.

Odessos is the old name of Varna, given by the Greeks from Millet (about 80 km South from Ionia, nowadays Izmir Turkey) that set foot ashore in 572 B.C. In 15 A.D. it became a part of the Roman Empire in the province of Moesia.
Residence Odessos wants to revive the spirit of an ancient Roman city from 15 - 305 A.D. (before Constantine). The imperial atmosphere will make the visitors believe they are entering an ancient Roman city, but in its core it will be a state of the art project, with its own energy sources (wind and solar energy) and cleaning installations. Everything should be focussing on minimising the negative effects on the environment.
